Meeting the Challenge
For many years the Cancer Support Association has hosted the 1 day "Meeting the Challenge" seminar for people with cancer. CSA Client Services Manager Cathy Brown first devised the course more than a decade ago to introduce wellness and lifestyle strategies to people with cancer. As a long-term cancer survivor Cathy knows exactly what it takes to recover from a "terminal" diagnosis of cancer.
The Meeting the Challenge Seminar and Handbook has evolved to contains key information which can be used by all people newly diagnosed with cancer to help gain a balanced perspective and as an introduction to the wellness approach to cancer.
The Seminar and Handbook presents a holistic cancer wellness strategy based on the principles of lifestyle medicine and mind-body healing. It contains information to help process a cancer diagnosis, calmly consider the options, strengthen personal resources, understand available options and devise your own cancer wellness plan which includes lifestyle, nutrition, meditation, natural and complementary therapies, in conjunction with mainstream medical treatments.
If you have just been diagnosed with cancer you will benefit from the immediate strategies in the Seminar and Handbook. We outline what you can do to recover from cancer and provide information to help you adopt a lifestyle which is conducive to good health, healing and happiness. It is about learning self-help strategies and strengthening personal resources, discovering supports and health information to positively deal with, and prevent serious diseases such as cancer.
With total commitment, it has been found that even after being given a 'terminal' cancer diagnosis, many people are able to recover from cancer. Ian Gawler, CSA staff members Cathy Brown and Mike Sowerby, CSA members, and many other long-term cancer survivors are living examples of the potential success of the wellness approach to cancer.
If you are unable to attend the Meeting the Challenge Seminar, we are happy to send you a copy of the Handbook at no charge.
